Applied Optics Laboratory
In this research laboratory the FibEnTech unit has the necessary facilities for the usage and development of optical techniques to the characterization of fibrous materials.

Particularly, under the Project UID/Multi/00195/2013 the FibEnTech unit developed the following laboratory setups for control, acquisition, processing, and analysis of data of fibrous materials.

1. Optical system for three-dimensional reconstruction of the surface of textile fabrics that makes it possible to objectively measure the formation of pilling and wrinkling on the fabrics.

2. Optical system for measuring the degree of orientation and distribution of fibers in fibrous nets (woven, non-woven, and paper) on the surface and through its thickness.

3. Optical system for evaluating the interaction of ink/liquids with the paper and the dynamics of scattering on the surface and thickness of the paper, contact angles and other parameters.
