Ana Sofia Santiago is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Textile Science and Technology of the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and an integrated researcher at the Fiber Materials and Environmental Technologies (FibEnTech/UBI) R&D Unit. She holds a PhD (2026) in Fashion Design from UBI/University of Minho, with research focused on new materials and sustainable textile processes applied to fashion design. She also holds a Bachelor's degree (2017) and a Master's degree (2020) in Fashion Design, as well as a postgraduate specialization in Strategic Communication from UBI.
Between 2021 and 2026, she worked as a research fellow on several R&D projects, including C. Orthopedics, STVgoDigital, and be@t – Bioeconomy for Textiles and Apparel. Her experience also includes professional activity in the garment manufacturing and product development industry, as well as teaching support for the Knitwear Design course within UBI's Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design.
In 2023, she undertook an Erasmus+ mobility period at the DIKNIGA Lab – Development of Innovative Knitted Textiles and Garments, University of West Attica, Greece. Between 2022 and 2024, she was a member of the Student Evaluators Pool of the Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).
She is the author and co-author of scientific publications and works presented at conferences and published in book chapters and national and international journals, with a particular focus on sustainability, textile materials, and fashion design.
