Elsa Susana Fonseca

Elsa Susana Reis Fonseca is currently an auxiliary professor at the Department of Physics (DF) of the Faculty of Sciences (FC) of the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and a researcher in Applied Optics and Instrumentation. She is an integrated doctoral member of the Fiber Materials and Environmental Technologies Research Unit (FibEnTech-UBI) and a collaborator at the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Particles (LIP). She holds a Degree in Technological Physics Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the University of Lisbon (UL), Portugal (1995), a Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from IST (1998), and a PhD in Physics from UBI (2007). Her scientific domains and main interests are Applied Optics to the areas of Biomedicine, Vision Sciences and non-destructive analysis of materials. She has experience in the development of optical systems and signal processing and analysis software in remote detection systems (LIDAR - Light Detection and Ranging), Radiometry Photothermal, Diffuse Reflectance and Digital Holography. She has experience in simulating optical systems and light propagation in diffusing media (biological tissues, atmosphere) using Monte Carlo methods using object-oriented programming (Geant4, C++), MATLAB and software for calculating and designing optical systems (Zemax, OSLO). He is a member of Optica – Formerly OSA.
