Maria José Alvelos Pacheco holds a degree in Technological Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and obtained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Beira Interior, in 2007. She has carried out studies in area of environmental electrochemistry in the degradation of persistent organic pollutants, of which phenolic compounds, drugs, dyes, aromatic amines, among others, stand out. In this context, he prepared new materials to be used as anodes, in particular mixed oxides with a perovskite-like structure, and used other anode materials, such as boron-doped diamond and lead and tin oxides. Participated in studies involving the electrochemical treatment of leachate from landfills, effluents from the textile, tanning and olive oil production industries, among others, applying/developing analytical methodologies for monitoring, throughout treatments, parameters of environmental importance.
