Álvaro Frederico Campos Vaz completed a degree in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (1987), worked as a process engineer at Portucel (Viana), obtained an MBA (Master of Business Administration) at the Instituto Superior de Estudos Empresariais of the University of Porto (now Porto Business School) and a Master's degree in Business Management in 1997, and completed a PhD in Paper Engineering at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in 2004. Chemistry at UBI since 2004, developing Teaching and Research activities. At the teaching level, he has taught several curricular units at the University of Beira Interior in the Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Paper Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, in the areas of chemical thermodynamics, process optimization, unit operations, transfer phenomena, chemistry, plant biology and design. In the area of research, its main area of activity has focused on understanding the mechanisms of refining cellulosic pulps, the impact of operating conditions on the properties of fibres, pulp and paper and their energy and operational optimization. Another interest centers on the study of the rheology of fibrous suspensions and the effect of morphology and properties of fibers and flakes on their behavior. It also seeks to study the relationships between the morphological characteristics of the fibers (including the nanofibrils), the processing conditions and the corresponding properties of the final products. Álvaro Frederico Campos Vaz is the author/co-author of several scientific articles in ISI journals and several articles in international congresses.
