Rui Alberto Lopes Miguel holds a degree in Textile Engineering (1985) from UBI. He worked for 8 years at Indústria Laneira. In 1987, he began his academic career at UBI in the areas of Textile Engineering and Fashion Design. He was a researcher at the CSIC in Barcelona, in area of “engineering design” and fabric performance, with a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He holds a PhD in Textile Engineering from UBI (2000). He is a researcher at the Research Unit FibEnTech-UBI. He was a member of the General Council of UBI and a consultant for the Portuguese Air Force. He is Associate Professor, Director of the Doctoral Course in Fashion Design. He was President of the Textile Department and member of the Faculty and Scientific Councils of the Faculty of Engineering. He is a member of the ATP Advisory Board. He has been involved in several studies and scientific projects and in partnership with companies in the textile and clothing industry. He has authored and co-authored over 200 book chapters, journal articles and conference papers in the fields of textile physics, smart textiles and clothing, and fashion design, he is a TRJ reviewer.
